Ask the class a question and watch their answers grow into a word cloud on the board, with the most common answers biggest.
Open the Word Cloud See plans and prices
Free to try with a free ABC account (two opens a day). Included in every paid plan from Basic.
How it works in class
- Choose Live, type your prompt and click Start word cloud.
- Show the link or QR code. Each student adds a word or short phrase from their own phone, tablet or laptop.
- The cloud grows as answers arrive. Save it as an image, download the words and counts as a CSV file, or reset it for the next question.
Ideas for your lesson
- Brainstorm vocabulary before a reading: words you connect with the sea.
- Close a unit with: one word you will remember from this topic.
- Paste a short text into From text mode to show its key vocabulary before students read it.
- Make one cloud before a topic and one after, and compare them as a class.
- Use Embed to put the live cloud on your class website or learning platform page.
Why teachers use it
- Students join with a link or QR code in their browser, with no app and no student accounts.
- Live answers go through the ABC site’s own server, not an outside relay service.
- From text mode filters common English and Italian words, and you choose the minimum word length, how many words to show and whether words can rotate.
- Clouds download as PNG or SVG for slides and handouts.
- There are no ad trackers or analytics pixels in the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Word Cloud free?
You can try it with a free ABC account, which gives you two opens a day. The Basic plan (€11 a month) and every plan above it remove that limit.
Can I make a word cloud without a live session?
Yes. From text mode turns any text you paste into a cloud sized by how often each word appears, with five colour themes.
Can I remove an off-topic word?
In From text mode, switch on Remove words and click a word to hide it. You can restore hidden words in one click. In a live session, Reset clears all the words.
How do I keep the results?
Use Save as image for the cloud, Download data for a CSV of every word and how many times it was given, and Save QR code if you want to print the join code.
