Put a question on the board, students answer on their phones, and the results build on screen while you watch.
Open Live Polling See plans and prices
Free to try with a free ABC account (two opens a day). Included in every paid plan from Basic.
How it works in class
- Build your poll as a set of question cards: multiple choice (one answer or several), word cloud, open text, or a scale with your own range and labels for each end.
- Click Show on screen. The board shows a 5-character code and a QR code, and students open it in the browser on their phone. There is no app to install and students do not need accounts.
- Move through the questions with Next. Results appear as answers arrive, and you can clear a question’s answers and run it again.
Ideas for your lesson
- Open with a 1 to 5 confidence scale on yesterday’s grammar point.
- Check a reading answer with a multiple-choice question before you go through it together.
- Ask a word cloud question such as: one word for how you feel about the test.
- Collect exit-ticket sentences with an open-text question and save them as a spreadsheet.
- Save the poll to a file and run it again with your next class.
Why teachers use it
- Students join with a code or QR on their own phone, with nothing to install and no student accounts.
- Answers go through the ABC site’s own server, not an outside relay service, and ABCwebsites builds its tools to work on school networks.
- There are no ad trackers or analytics pixels. The site’s privacy policy says its usage stats are self-hosted.
- Results save as a PDF summary or a CSV file that opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
- The interface works in English and Italian.
Frequently asked questions
Is Live Polling free?
You can try it with a free ABC account, which gives you two opens a day. The Basic plan (€11 a month) and every plan above it remove that limit.
Do students need an account or an app?
No. They type the code from the board, or scan the QR code, in their phone’s browser.
What happens if I close the presenting tab?
The poll stops and phones lose the connection, so keep that tab open and on screen until you finish.
Some phones will not connect. What can I try?
Check the 5-character code was typed correctly. If a phone is on mobile data, the tool suggests switching it to the school Wi-Fi.
