About Kyle and ABCwebsites

ABCwebsites is run by one person: Kyle, a teacher and web developer. Everything on this site, from the classroom tools to the Mac apps, is built, maintained and supported by him.

What you will find here

  • Classroom tools for teachers. Live polls, word clouds, a Q and A wall, a quiz show, a classroom timer and more, built to run in the browser on a school network. Students join with a code or a QR code and do not need an account. See the full list of tools and the guides.
  • Otto’s Lesson Generator. An AI lesson planner for English teachers: choose a CEFR level and a topic and get a lesson plan with a student worksheet. Read how it works.
  • Five small Mac apps. Clipmunk (clipboard history), DiscoSync (multi-speaker sync), MacFloss (disk space), Kagenda (an agenda window) and Wazzup (WhatsApp on the Mac). See the Mac apps.
  • Web design. Bespoke, fast websites built by hand, from a one-page site to a full multilingual build. See web design in Malta and the studio site at abcwebsites.org.
  • The RdR toolkit. A separate set of tools for the Rete delle Reti library network, with its own membership and guide.

Why the classroom tools exist

They were made by a teacher for teachers who work on school networks, where many popular tools are blocked or need student accounts. So the ABC tools are served from one domain, open in a normal browser with nothing to install, and let students join with a short code. The guide to classroom tools that work behind the school filter explains what that means in practice and what to ask your IT department to allow.

English teaching

Kyle also teaches English online. Lessons, worksheets and learner tools live on the sister site abcenglishonline.com; the teacher-facing tools live here.

How the site treats your data

Visits are counted with a self-hosted, cookieless counter rather than a third-party analytics service. Where a tool uses an outside service, for example to relay live answers from phones to the board, the filter guide names it. The privacy policy lists the services the site uses and your rights under GDPR.

Languages

The site and the tools are in English, and many of the tools also have an Italian switch. Support is in English and Italian.

Frequently asked questions

Who builds and supports the tools?

Kyle, a teacher and web developer. There is no team behind the site: the person who built the tools is the one who answers the contact form.

Do students need an account?

No. For the live classroom tools, students join with a short code or a QR code in their browser. Teachers need a free ABC account to open most tools; a few, such as the classroom timer, open without one.

Where do the tools run?

In your browser, so they are not tied to any one country.
